You might consider me a fitness "fun"atic. I like to promote fitness "fun"damentals and "fun"ctional fitness when encouraging people to activate their lifestyle. Think back, or as Mary Poppins sings, "simply remember your favorite things".... What did you enjoy doing as a kid? Hopefully, by incorporating some of these activities into your day you will experience an attitude adjustment from "have to" to "want to" and embrace the pleasure factor that comes with the flow of movement and the feel-good endorphins produced in the process...
The possibilities for fitting fitness in are only limited by your creativity/resourcefulness...as for me, the world is my gym...life is my workout... Enjoy!!!
Here are some of my favorite activities:
Biking: I find that it's one of the best activities for clearing my head and rejuvenating my body...to build muscles use a higher gear which will provide higher resistance...pick up the pace to make it more cardio...you can firm your stomach muscles by tightening your abdominals & practicing good posture as you ride...standing up while biking makes it more of a weight bearing, bone building exercise...using toe clips or clip shoes makes your pedaling more efficient...be safe, relax & enjoy the ride...
Nordic Walking: One reason I'm a fan of Nordic Walking is that by using proper technique you can utilize more than 90% of the body's total muscle mass while burning more calories than if you were walking regularly...the Nordic walking technique involves using poles with specialized wrist straps to enhance the natural swing of the arms along with creating a force when striking the ground that helps propel the body forward...upper body muscular endurance can be increased by 38% in just 12 weeks...now that's maximizing...
Stability Balls: I enjoy using a stability ball as a desk chair- it works my abdominal muscles without me even thinking about doing it...I use smaller balls for other exercises- just make sure you have the right size ball & it's inflated properly...
Aquatic Fitness: The diverse possibilities in the water can be purely recreational, involve laps, or an exercise routine/class...I like to use resistance "toys" to take advantage of the fact that water has 12 times the resistance of air; plus, it's great for a low impact, cardio-building activity...basically, it's like life, you get out of it what you put into it...
Hula Hooping: Commercials or when I'm on the phone are great opportunities to hoop-it-up...you burn about 8 calories/minute...(I'll be glad to make you one that's just the right size...)
Strength Building & Stretching: I like to use bands, my body weight, and free weights(bottles filled with water when traveling)...I regularly watch the news in the morning and the evening so I find this to be a good time for me to incorporate these moves- including some Yoga and Pilates...
